Treating Bay Windows
Bay windows offer panoramic views of the outside world and invite a great deal of natural light into your space. They also make a room feel larger and add a fun nook to enjoy a good book or a hot cup of coffee. The right window treatment allows you to preserve your wonderful view while filtering the light coming in your bay window. To determine what will be the best choice, first need to ecide if you want to treat the windows as one large unit or three separate windows. The position of your bay window within your home will dictate how much light control you need. It will also determine how accessible you want the outside view.
Fabric Options
You can hang a long, straight curtain rod in the space above the bay for floor-to-ceiling drapery panels. The drapes should frame the window, not clutter it or obstruct the view. Or, to highlight the architecture of the bay, dress each window individually, mounting the treatments inside the window molding, so they inhabit the space within the window frame. Plantation shutters like Heritance® hardwood shutters or NewStyle® hybrid shutters by Hunter Douglas are a great option when installed inside the molding to cover the bottom of each window. By keeping the treatments identical, the bay still appears consistent.
