Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring Cleaning Your Home

Spring cleaning time is upon us—the time to get your home tidied and clean. And now’s a great time for a deep clean of some things you might not otherwise think of. At Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we’re happy to give you some tips on things to address this spring. Read on to learn more!

Home Appliances

The appliances in our homes do a great deal of work, and yet many people overlook the need to clean them entirely. Yet many of them are screaming for a deep clean. For example, if you have a room humidifier, it just might have collected some bacteria over time. Find the product booklet for the best way to clean your particular model, and give it some love. Same with other appliances in your home, such as the oven, computers, and televisions (and don’t forget any remotes!). Plus, take care of the fridge—be sure to clean the bottom, where everything drips, and don’t forget to pull it from the wall and clean up any dust bunnies there and beneath the unit.

Organizing Sections of Your Home

Now’s a great time to address spaces like your pantry, closets, garage, basement, and storage areas. Sort through and determine those things you really don’t need. And if you’ve been putting off organizing your digital photos, give it a shot now! And while you’re at it, what about your email inbox? Take some time to rid it of the unneeded emails and to file or archive the others.

Upkeep Around the House

If it’s been a while since you last changed the batteries in your smoke or carbon monoxide detectors, take the time to do it now. Change your furnace filter as well as any others that you might have neglected. Finally, spend some time with your dryer vent and clear it of dust and lint.

Your View to the World

Spring is the perfect time to clean the interior and exterior of the windows, wash the screens, and clean off the sills. And you can do some upkeep on your window treatments. With treatments like Silhouette® window shadings, you can use the brush attachment on your vacuum to get a good clean. Simply dust blinds and shades with a feather duster, and use compressed air to clean out cellular shades such as Duette® Honeycomb Shades. If your aluminum or faux wood blinds (such as Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds or Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds) are particularly grimy, you can remove them and clean them with lukewarm water in a bathtub or sink. Reinstall the treatment while it’s still damp, and lower it to let it completely dry.
