Cleaning the Ocean
Our oceans have become a vast dumping ground for plastics, and due to winds and ocean currents, they collect to become giant floating death traps for sea animals. To help ensure the sustainability of our oceans and the animals they house for generations to come, Hunter Douglas identified a partner that could simultaneously create a new breed of fabric while cleaning up the oceans’ mess. Bionic® is a mission-driven materials-engineering company that has developed programs for coastal recycling in developing countries. Hunter Douglas asked Bionic to create a yarn from those wastes—that yarn is the key building block for the new GreenScreen® Sea-Tex™ available exclusively on Designer Screen Shades.
Screen Shade Openness
If you own or are thinking about purchasing screen shades, you probably know they help block harmful UV rays and provide privacy, view-through, and glare control while filtering natural sunlight. To determine the amount of light and shade your screen shade will provide, check for its openness level., which is expressed in percentages. A 1% openness level, for example, provides a more obscured view, while a 5% openness level allows more light and a clearer view. The lower the percentage value, the tighter the weave. The new recycled fabrics come in five neutral tones in 3% openness.
