Window Covering Safety Month for Hunter Douglas Shades and Blinds

Even in October, there’s more to fear than ghosts and ghouls. There are the very real dangers of dangling window treatment cords. National Window Covering Safety Month, aimed at drawing awareness to the need for safe window treatments, is going on now. And at Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we’re committed to helping ensure that every customer has safety first. Read up on the dangers, and be sure to contact one of our representatives if you have questions about your situation.

Resolve Dangerous Cords

One of the top five hidden dangers to children in a home (as ranked by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission), dangling window fashion cords can strangle curious toddlers or infants, just in a matter of seconds. The safest route is cordless window fashions; however, in some cases, it just isn’t practical. If your window treatments are corded, move any beds, cribs, other furniture, and toys away from windows, keeping the cords out of reach by cutting them or tying them up. You can also order a retrofit kit from the Window Covering Safety Council at https://windowcoverings.org/retrofit-your-windows/.

Hunter Douglas Products

Hunter Douglas offers a variety of products that can reduce the danger of strangulation, including cordless to motorized operating systems such as LiteRise®, wand control, Vertiglide™, Ultraglide®, and PowerView® Automation. Several treatments fit the bill as well, including:

  • Designer Roller Shade. With a great variety of fabrics in many colors and textures, these popular shades can fit with almost any décor. Its simple functionality is a boon for many homes, and its clean lines make it great for almost any room in the house
  • Duette® Cellular Shade. Made with honeycomb construction, this product can help insulate the window, keeping inside air in and outside air out. It also provides sound absorption and beautiful light control. Plus, you can order it with the top-down/bottom-up operation, which lets you open the shade from the top, from the bottom, or both simultaneously.
  • Provenance® Woven Wood Shades. Made from reeds, grasses, woods, and bamboo, these shades bring a hint of nature inside the home. With their unique design, woven wood shades filter light beautifully, and, if you need more light control, you can add a liner, which also helps with privacy.
