Making a Window Treatment Selection
Buying the right window treatment can be daunting. There’s a lot to choose from, including style, fabric, color, and function. The trained consultants at Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area will be happy to help you narrow down your choices; meanwhile, consider some of the following tips to get started.
Controlling Light
Do you want your window treatments to diffuse or deflect the light? This can be an important question for those who are light-sensitive in particular. In general, diffused light will be softer, without the intensity or glare of deflected light. However, deflected light can brighten a room and can work well on windows that don’t see direct sunlight. If you think diffused light is the way to go, consider Duette® Honeycomb Shades, Silhouette® Window Shadings, or Luminette® Privacy Sheers. If you want to go with deflected light, remember that you can soften it with draperies. Some product choices include Provenance® Woven Wood Blinds, shutters, and both vertical and horizontal blinds.
Window Treatment Orientation
Do you need your treatments to be vertically or horizontally oriented? Vertical products are best for large openings, such as sliding glass doors or large walls of windows. They might not be the best choice for homes with pets or small children, however. Horizontal products are versatile in use and function. If you need to, you can mix and match with the Duette Honeycomb line, which offers both horizontal and vertical orientation.
Visibility
Do you want your window treatment to blend in or stand out? If it blends in, it’s merely a function for your room—something else will draw the eye. If the window treatment stands out, it becomes the focal point and will be the main thing people see. If you want your treatment to blend in, choose neutral colors and soft textures. If you want it to stand out, choose color.
