Make Your Home Spring-Ready

Whether the ground hog said it or not, the calendar tells us spring is here, so it’s the best time to get homes prepped for spring. At Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we’ve got a few tips to keep in mind for getting your home ready for the new season. Read on to learn more! 

General Maintenance 

Springtime calls for some big and little pieces of maintenance, including reorganizing your pantry, basement, or storage area. A good garage clean is probably in order, so you can ditch the junk and clear out the wintertime gunk that came in on your tires. And don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Clearing Gutters

With all the wind and winter weather we’ve gotten this year, your gutters are bound to have a bunch of leaves, muck, and other debris stuck in them. If you neglect this upkeep now, you might have some gutter problems down the road, so now’s a good time to tackle it. Clear out the foreign material from the gutters, and then be sure the downspouts send the water at least five feet from the structure of your home.

Enhance Your View 

Now’s a great time to get the wintertime grime off both the inside and outside of your windows, as well as to show your screens some love. You can clean the screens in your tub or utility sink (or even your kitchen sink) with a rag and some mild soapy water. Repair any breaks or replace screens that are beyond repair. You can also do some maintenance on your window treatments. If you have blinds or shades, dust them off, and for treatments like Silhouette®, clean them using the brush attachment on your vacuum. Compressed air is a good way to clean out cellular shades such as Duette® Honeycomb Shades. And if your aluminum or faux wood blinds (such as Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds or Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds) are particularly grimy, you can remove them and clean them with lukewarm water in a bathtub or sink. Once they’re clean, reinstall the treatment while it’s still damp, and lower it to let it completely dry.
