Color in Interior Design
Color can seem daunting to some people, who might be afraid they’ll “get it wrong.” But at Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we have a few ways to approach color that might reduce that sense of being overwhelmed. And maybe make adding color more manageable. Read on to learn more!
Using Color
Nothing sets the tone of a room more powerfully than color. While choosing colors is greatly influenced by your personal preference, how you use color matters just as much. For example, don’t be afraid to go bold with it. Put a bright and/or bold color or pattern on one main surface area, like a primary focal point in the space, such as a standout wall or your kitchen backsplash. Use complementary colors throughout the room, such as in furniture, décor, and window fashions—custom drapes from the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™ can help you land on just the right color.
Neutrals Can Set the Tone
And they’re certainly not boring! Neutral colors are classic and timeless and can bring serenity to a room. Choose warm, cool, or rich chocolatey neutrals for that calming feel. Window fashions like Duette® Cellular Shades are offered in numerous neutral colors to enhance a room.
Compromise With Neutrals
If you’d rather do something “more” than neutrals but “less” than bold, consider pseudo neutrals like olives or blue-grays. Smoky hues, gray bases, and silver tints can bring on a lovely aesthetic.
Texture Acts Like Color
Bringing textures like weaves, stone or granite, or wood into a room can complement a color palette or enhance it. You can add these textures in décor, through furnishings like end tables, and with your window treatments. Provenance® Woven Wood Shades are created from woods, reeds, grasses, and bamboo and are available in over 80 material and color options.
Be Sure to Accessorize
Custom upholstery can tie an older piece of furniture in to your overall color scheme. Add pops of color through throw pillows, blankets, or artwork. And you can even coordinate with your window treatments—with the Fabric by the Yard™ program from Hunter Douglas, many window treatment fabrics are available for purchase separately, so you can create accessories or other finishing touches that will perfectly match your window.
