At Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we know that many people can be overwhelmed by the options as they begin a window fashions search. What we also know is that what might seem good on paper might not actually work well in practice. That’s why we work with our customers to understand everything we can about their needs and their windows to help them determine the best solution. Because in fact, what works best for your needs might not be what you immediately gravitate toward. Read on to learn about faux wood blinds and then speak with a representative to determine if they’re right for you.

Faux vs. Genuine Wood

Many people love the look and style that come with genuine wood, but in fact, genuine wood isn’t right for all situations. If your window tends to be hot or hit by constant sunlight (south-facing windows, for example), or if it’s in a room that can be humid, like a bathroom, real wood won’t be the best bet. However, faux wood, which is lighter than genuine wood, can withstand the elements and is guaranteed not to warp, crack, or peel, even in some of those tougher window locations.

Hunter Douglas Options

Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds offer durability and style. They are resistant to warping, bowing, yellowing, and fading, and they’re great for high-traffic areas, like sliders, patio doors, or kids’ rooms. Plus, they’re easy to clean—all you have to do is dust the slats with a soft cloth or use your vacuum’s brush attachment. If you choose 2″ blinds, you’ll have great view-through, so if you’re looking to preserve your panorama, this could be the route to go. Finally, these blinds are available in over 50 colorways, making them a great choice to complement any décor.

Operating Systems

Everwood works with three pet- and child-safe operating systems: LiteRise®, SimpleLift™, and PowerView® Automation. PowerView is the cream of the crop when it comes to operating systems; it adds greater flexibility in your control of your window treatments, convenience, and a level of security. Plus, it can be integrated into your whole-home automation system for streamlined use.

Measure for Your Blinds

If you order from Bretz Interiors, part of what’s included is professional measurement to ensure the perfect fit; however, if you want to get an idea of how your blinds will sit, here’s how you can measure on your own. First, think about whether you’ll want the blinds mounted inside your window frame or outside of it. Each offers benefits: for example, inside mount will be more flush to the window, helping to cut down on light coming in, while outside mount will cover the entire frame and add dimension to the space. If you decide on inside mount, be sure the window is square by measuring horizontally at the center, top, and bottom; vertically on both sides and in the center; and diagonally. Measure the depth of the frame to know if it’s large enough to fit the treatment, and take into account any window hardware (like openers) that could impede the treatment.
