Making Your Home Décor Seasonal
At Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we know that some people get bored with their home’s look—it feels like too much of the same old, same old. There are ways, however, to easily change it up, including switching out décor to match the season. Check out some ideas below!
Transform Seasonally
Rotating your décor each season can both transform your home and bring in an element of nature: as things change outside, they’ll also be changing inside. In springtime, using brighter colors and floral arrangements brings the idea of new growth. As we get closer to summer, you could consider lighter fabrics to reflect the vitality outside. In the autumn, use warm colors and natural elements that incorporate the external transformation and add a sense of warmth as temperatures start to drop. And in winter, use softer textures and lighting to give the idea of comfort and refuge.
Integrating Perishables
Perishables and consumables are a great decorative element that allows you to express your flair. In the fall, of course, you can use mini pumpkins and gourds as well as changing leaves to bring in earth tones and textures that reflect the outside changes. In winter, put out a bowl of oranges or lemons to brighten the space and illuminate the room. In spring and summer, use fresh flowers, potted herbs, and bowls of fruit to bring an atmosphere of life and growth inside.
Aromatics
Certain scents match very well with each season. For example, cinnamon and clove evoke strong autumn memories, while pine, cedarwood, and peppermint are often associated with winter. Spring welcomes floral and citrus scents, and summer is all about the bliss of freedom, so coconut or “ocean breeze” scents work well. You can work in these fragrances with essential oils in diffusers or through scented candles.
Room Accents
Rotating functional features of the room can quickly and easily evoke the seasons. Switch out themed hand towels in the bathroom or kitchen to celebrate the holidays or the changing weather. You can update framed family photos each season to show beach fun in the summer and snow events in the winter.
Window Treatments
While you aren’t likely to switch your window treatments out every three months, they will play a role in complementing your changing décor. One approach is to have neutral colors against your windows. Hunter Douglas Designer Roller Shades offer a clean, minimal design that will work well with any external change. Silhouette® Sheer Shades are designed with an adjustable S-shaped vane that helps diffuse light beautifully and offers excellent view-through to the changing seasons outside. Plus, for many window fashions, you can layer side panels or drapery that is easy to rotate. Use them to add pops of seasonal color or to reflect elements of the outdoors. Be sure to check out our custom fabrics and drapery options for all of the fabric choices that can help with your seasonal décor.
