The Flexibility of Shades

Duette® Honeycomb Shades with Duolite™

Window coverings come in all different styles, with numerous benefits all around. Yet shades have one flexible benefit that makes them a great solution for many windows—their flexibility in the way they open. If you’re in the market for new window fashions, you might consider shades versus blinds or shutters for this very reason. To see the flexibility in action, be sure to contact a representative at Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area today. We’ll be happy to help you determine whether shades are the right choice for your home.

Controlling Light and Privacy

If you want both natural light or a full view outside but still want to control the privacy in your room, you are in luck with the ways that shades—such as Hunter Douglas Honeycomb shades, Roman Shades, Silhouette® Privacy Sheers, and more—can open. With the standard, well-known bottom-up lifting, you get what you’ve seen for years: shades that open from the bottom to let light in while maintaining privacy on top. But shades also offer top-down operation, which allows natural light in from the top while privacy needs are met at the lower part of the window. For the best of both worlds, shades can even open from both the top and the bottom—called top-down/bottom-up operating—which allows you to lower the top and raise the bottom at the same time or independently.

Benefits of Each Option

Depending on where your window is, different opening options present different benefits. For example, the traditional bottom-up is a must if you have pets. Top-down is a great solution for a bedroom window that is on the ground floor—if you don’t want people to be able to see directly in, but you still want natural light. Top-down/bottom-up offers you the greatest choices and can be perfect for any room in your home.

Lift Systems to Choose From

You can choose from numerous Hunter Douglas lift systems, including standard manual operations and motorized systems. They all offer pet and child safety, and some offer more. UltraGlide® is a retractable cord system that lets you raise and lower your shades with no ugly, dangling external cords. LiteRise® is a cordless system that lets you gently raise and lower your shades with slight pressure from your hand. PowerView® motorization is a wireless operating system that can be used with a PowerView® Pebble® remote or with your mobile device or tablet, even if you’re not at home.
