Adding window fashions to a kid’s room can be a bit daunting. At Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we understand. If you’re looking to treat a window in a child’s room, we want to offer a few things to consider. Read on for more, and be sure to speak with one of our representatives to see some window fashions in person.

A Focus on Sleep

No matter your child’s age, sleep is an important factor to their health. That’s why it’s important to help them get the most sleep they can, whether that’s during the night or during an afternoon nap. Blocking out light is a frequent goal for parents, so it’s a good idea to look for shades with room-darkening fabrics. The Vignette® Modern Roman Shade is available in those fabrics; plus, you have the option to add a blackout liner or the Duolite® feature that essentially gives you two shades in one. If you choose Duette® Honeycomb Shades, you’ll have excellent light control, as well as the added benefit of insulation at the window to better control the temperature in the room. And you can add LightLock™ technology, which is a system of side channels designed to trap and deflect light, leaving the room in complete darkness.

Shades and Room Safety

Children are naturally curious and eager to explore, so it’s important to keep dangers well away, including ensuring that choking hazards aren’t present. Many older window treatments have dangling cords that can strangle kids and pets. Instead, opt for cordless treatments, which eliminate the hazard entirely. The best of the best is with automation like PowerView® Automation from Hunter Douglas, which lets you control the treatment’s movement with the touch of a button. Or check out LiteRise®, which lets you raise and lower the treatment by pushing up or pulling down on the bottom rail.

All About Style

Playful fabrics and colors can help a child feel good about their space. Look for colors, designs, and textures that can appeal to a kid’s sense of fun. Keep in mind, though, that a window treatment is an investment, and it’s best to get something that can grow with your child. A look that’s too juvenile might need to be replaced in just a couple of years, so don’t be afraid to explore some more “mature” looks as well. They can be just as fun but will last in the room longer.
