Design With Pantone Color of the Year 2023
At Bretz Interiors here in the greater Denver area, we love how much color can impact a space on so many levels. But it’s not just that—it’s also how the world can impact color choice. That’s what we see each year when the Pantone Color Institute selects a Color of the Year. Read on to learn about this year’s color and its import.
Choosing the Trending Color in Design
All industries that produce a product for fashion, home furnishings, hospitality, and automotive follow forecasted trends. The forecasted colors start in fashion and then move to home furnishings, hospitality, and finally automotive. Each industry takes the forecasted color direction and adjusts it to their area and products. Warmer-climate colors may be lighter, and cooler-climate colors may be a bit darker than the actual forecasted color. The Pantone Color Institute is a unit within Pantone that gauges color trends, selects the Color of the Year, and advises businesses on product and visual identity colors. Part of how they reach a decision on the Color of the Year is to weigh current climate, past behaviors, and past trends to reach a balance on what they expect the upcoming year to need.
This Year’s Color, Viva Magenta
This year, the Pantone Color Institute has selected Viva Magenta, which is a “nuanced crimson tone” that balances warm and cool and is “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time.” Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says that Viva Magenta is “rooted in the primordial” and “reconnects us to original matter…It galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.” If this resonates with you, you might want to add this bright hue to your home or everyday life. It won’t be hard to find items that you can bring to your home because Pantone has already been collaborating with numerous places to produce elements incorporating the color: Motorola phones, Spoonflower designs, CARIUMA shoes, Deepa Gurnani jewelry, and more.
Using Color at the Window
The window can be an important element when it comes to adding color to the room—it can either contain the color itself, or it can help balance it out. With custom drapery or side panels from the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™, you can select from a variety of fabrics in numerous colors and textures. Or, to bring Viva Magenta to your space through artwork, décor, and accessories, consider a window treatment in a neutral color that can act as a background foundation. For example, consider the popular Duette® Cellular Shade in a neutral tone. The benefit is that you’ll also get great insulation at the window. No matter your goal, you’re bound to find the right treatment to meet it. Start today!
