Make Your Home a Haven With Custom Window Fashions

Silhouette® Window Shadings

When you’re done with work at night or if you’re wanting to make the most of a low-key weekend, you might be looking for the most relaxing spot you can find. But what if your home doesn’t currently offer that? If you’re hoping to create more of a relaxing haven in your daily space, don’t worry. At Bretz Interiors serving the greater Denver area, we have a few tips for how to shape your home into just the place you can unwind. Check them out below!

Your Home as Your Refuge

Getting a breather from the everyday chaos of life shouldn’t have to be difficult. In fact, it can often just boil down to some decoration choices. For example:

  • Neutrals shape the scene. It’s pretty obvious: bright colors up the vibe in a room. Which is nice if you want an active room. But if you’re looking to unwind, a neutral palette with milder colors can create a greater sense of ease. And don’t worry! Neutrals don’t have to be boring—you can add pops of color in specific areas to brighten the tone, and you can add texture in things like area rugs, comfy blankets, throw pillows, and artwork to create additional visual interest.
  • Declutter to bring on the calm. You might not realize it, but any form of clutter could be gnawing at your subconscious, making it harder for you to relax. To bring about a more calming atmosphere, clear the clutter. Use baskets, decorative boxes, or soft space cubes as storage for things like mail or paperwork. Pare down your décor to only the items you really love—a busy room can lead to anxiety and stress.
  • Highlight happy memories. Photos of times with friends and loved ones can bring a greater sense of happiness to your space—particularly if you aren’t able to see those people all the time. Good memories can help you feel more at ease.
  • Create a relaxing-activity zone. If you find peace in reading, listening to music, or doing jigsaw or crossword puzzles, designate one area for that relaxing activity. This doesn’t mean that other areas aren’t relaxing for you, but in this one area, after time, you might find that you’ve trained your brain to start to immediately relax as soon as you sit down.
  • Make the most of natural light. Animals can teach us a thing or two about enjoying that patch of natural light. And even if it’s not direct sunlight shining through your window, the way that light works can feel magical. Let your window fashions lead the way here. Find the right fit for perfect light diffusion (consider Silhouette® Window Shadings, Pirouette® Window Shadings, or Designer Banded Shades from Hunter Douglas), light control (consider the tilting power of Heritance® Hardwood Shutters), or full sunlight with privacy (check out the top-down/bottom-up operation available on many Hunter Douglas treatments). Especially in the winter, light can be the most important relaxation tool, so speak with one of our representatives to find out what will be best in your particular space.
